ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Shot whilst trekking through a restricted area of the Himalayas in the Manaslu region of Nepal (close to the border of Tibet).

At this altitude you are up in the clouds.

You feel and see the atmosphere moving around and through you constantly.

On this afternoon, we were moving in and out of shadow as we walked as the clouds drifted into the path of the sun’s rays. In the distance locals were burning large amounds of a dense, oil rich wood which added a thick hazy smoke to the air, the combination of which obscured the view of the mounatins in front of us for much of the time.

Then for a fleeting moment, when this shot was captured in one fortunate frame, the clouds parted and hovered behind the mounatins as the sun blazed down and created shafts of light though the smoky haze, back lighting the rows of trees lining the mountain edge.

In the next blink everything shifted and the distant mountains once again disappeared from view.

An awe-inspring spectacle of a magnitude that only nature can produce and a reminder of the ever changing, impermanent nature of everything, including ourselves. One is constanlty reminded of the Buddhist philosophy of impermanence as you sit in the lap of the gods.
