ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Shot whilst trekking through a restricted area of the Himalayas in the Manaslu region of Nepal (close to the border of Tibet).
This particular shot was taken during an acclimatisation trek outside of Sama Gaon, a high altitude village close to the border of Tibet.
I had been crouching amongst the rocks at the edge of stream, messing about with my camera taking some shots from the low level of the water when a man carrying a large basket of wood back to the village came into view. I snapped a couple of frames from my stream level position before sitting up.
He smiled broadly when he noticed me before returned his gaze to the ground a few metres ahead and continued softly singing to himself as he passed with his heavy load, without breaking stride.
It was a moment that has stayed with me deeply. A reminder to me that hard work and tough times are part of life and our mindset in the face of this can hold the key to it not consuming or crushing you.
